Via Lake Keitele to Viitasaari

After the Keitele Canal, the Lake Päijänne Water Route continues to lake Ala-Keitele where water tourists will be greeted by the lively towns of Suolahti and Äänekoski and all their services.

The scenery of lake Keitele opens up after the meeting place of Matilanvirta, and when you arrive at Kokonselkä, you can see almost as far as your eyes allow. The northern parts of the water system are a boating world of their own where narrow routes, numerous islands and wide open waters create a wonderful boating environment that is almost wilderness at times. Beautiful natural harbours and genuine village environments are interesting places to visit.

The northernmost point of the Viitasaari Route is Keitelepohja that is ca. 50 nautical miles from Suolahti. In the town of Viitasaari, boaters are served by a wonderful guest harbour opened in the summer of 2005 next to a service station.
